Max Cleland laid out Dick "Deferment" Cheney on CNN's The Situation Room this past Monday. Merbex diaried about it here but you have got to see the video!
I don't typically enjoy quoting right-wing media windbags, but when one of them displays a rare "moment of clarity" in public I usually take notice. Laura Ingraham was part of "The State of Conservatism" panel hosted by the National Review Institute last Friday. When the panel began discussing Senator Jim Webb's rebuttal to Bush's SOTU, she had some very interesting things to say.
I'm having to paraphrase from the video (links are below) because I can't find an actual transcript:
"A friend of mine, very close friend of mine, very Conservative from Kentucky, his Dad called him up after the speech, his Father is a very right wing Christian Conservative, and said, 'Did you just hear this Webb guy? I haven't heard a Democrat talk like that for years.' I hear more and more people saying the same thing."
Happy Halloween Everyone! Ya know, we might knock George Allen for a lot of things here in the blogosphere, but one thing we must give him credit for is PLAYING DRESS UP. Seriously, does this guy have some great outfits below or what?
Thus I present to you...(drum roll)
The 2006 George Allen Halloween Costume Contest!!!
(After all, George may find himself playing one of these roles FOR REAL after Jim Webb puts him out of work just one week from today!)
George Allen M.D. (would you trust him with a scalpel?)
George the Cowboy (it's easier than going to Vietnam)
Confederate General George Allen (George shows his true colors)
So I'm half drunk (just got dropped off from a friends b-day party here in Northern Virginia) and returned to my computer to find a wonderfully sickening story awaiting me on WashingtonPost.com...
Rep. Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), who is leading the party's effort to regain majority status in the House, stormed out of Dean's office several days ago leaving a trail of expletives, according to Democrats familiar with the session.
Former Navy Secretary James H. Webb Jr. said yesterday that he will file papers this week to seek the Democratic nomination to run for the U.S. Senate this year.
As Reed Richards said in the comments below; "George Allen just wet himself."
If anyone is coming to the Anti-War rally this Saturday and would like to hang out with some cool folks in labor and do some good in the process please read on.
It simply involves walking around with a clipboard & collecting email addresses for the Wake-Up Wal-Mart Campaign. You can still take part in the march/rally/concert. And heck, you even get a free t-shirt!
Over the weekend I was talking with someone who has managed campaigns in other states and he offered some insight into the VA Governors race. He also knows a few people working in the Kaine campaign right now. Here's what he told me in a nutshell:
The new labor federation known as the Change to Win Coalition will be announcing a new name for itself at its founding convention in two weeks. But rumor has it that the group is having trouble deciding on a name.
Wal-Mart has finally managed to get some much needed good press thanks to their donations and response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster in the Gulf Coast. And while I applaud their efforts, I think we must look at them in context and be somewhat weary of their motivations.
Is Wal-Mart truly sincere about aiding those communities that have been destroyed by Katrina? If so, then isn't it time for the company to address the dark realities that exist within its own stores and workforce?
In an email to supporters earlier today, Sen. John Edwards crticized President Bush for his response to the Katrina disaster.
"Over the past two weeks President Bush has failed in his response to Hurricane Katrina, and as a result thousands of Gulf Coast residents - most of them poor - have been tragically neglected, leading to preventable suffering and death."
This is my first diary on Kos. I thought I'd share a short photo essay I posted over at Myspace.com. Enjoy and reflect!
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
(1918) - Theodore Roosevelt
